🇪🇺In 2015, when the European Union was facing a rapid inflow of migrants from the Middle East and Africa, which culminated in what is often referred to as “the migration crisis”, its Eastern neighbor was undergoing its own mass reshuffling of the population.

🇺🇦With the fifth largest number of internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the world, reaching nearly 1.8 million, Ukraine has found it arduous to deal with the immense and long-term consequences of the war in its eastern region of Donbas.

👯‍♂️The rapid inflow of people from the east and south of Ukraine to other regions has not only seen an ad-hoc and poorly elaborated governmental response, but also led to a number of problems related to the integration of newcomers, unemployment, as well as prejudice, xenophobia and distrust towards the “others”.

💕However, it has also seen an unprecedented mobilisation of civil society in support of the displaced, reflected in a variety of selfless acts of human kindness.

🇲🇩 #Transnistria, or as it is officially called the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic, is an unrecognized state with a population of about half a million people located in a narrow strip of land in the eastern part of Moldova along the Dniester river on its west and the Ukrainian border on its east.

☝🏻Transnistria, formerly part of the Moldavian Soviet Socialist Republic, became a battling ground of identities, ethnicities, and ideologies in the face of the looming collapse of the USSR in the early 1990s.

🔫 The conflict that encompassed both political processes and military action with subsequent casualties put the young Moldovan country in a state of a civil war.

🗺 Currently, it is only recognized as a state by other unrecognized republics, such as Abkhazia, Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh)3, and South Ossetia.

✌🏻Another case is represented by #Gagauzia (or the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia), which is located in the southern part of Moldova and composed of Orthodox Christian people speaking a Turkic language.

⏮ It started its struggle for independence from Moldova even before Transnistria.

🚫 However, its fight did not lead to bloodshed or casualties and was resolved by the Moldovan government granting the Gagauz people an autonomy within Moldova.

Die ersten freien Wahlen von Sejm und Senat fanden 1991 statt 🗳

Nach 1991 blieben die bis zu diesem Zeitpunkt gebildeten Parteien jedoch nicht bestehen, sondern verändern sich.

So kommt es dazu, dass „in den vier Parlamentswahlen die zwischen 1991 und 2001 stattfanden, nur drei Parteien jedes Mal unter dem gleichen Namen antraten“.

Doch auch später stabilisieren sich die Schwankungen der Wähler- und Parteienvolatilität nicht, was zu einer fluktuierenden Parteienlandschaft führt.

Die niedrige Parteienbindung ist jedoch nicht nur spezifisch für Polen, sondern tritt auch in anderen ostmitteleuropäischen Ländern auf.

Im März 2022 jährt sich zum dreißigsten Mal der Krieg zwischen der Republik Moldau und der Pridnestrowischen Moldauischen Republik (PMR), auch als Transnistrien geläufig.

Als im Frühling 1992 der Konflikt zwischen den beiden Parteien eskalierte, starben mehr als 1.000 Personen und über 100.000 Menschen flohen.

Bis heute ist der Konflikt nicht endgültig beigelegt. Die PMR erfüllt praktisch alle Eigenschaften eines unabhängigen Staates.

So verfügt sie beispielsweise über eine eigene Regierung und Währung, wird aber von keinem anderen Staat anerkannt, sondern ist völkerrechtlich Teil der Republik Moldau.

Der ungelöste Konflikt zwischen der Republik Moldau und der PMR spielt bis heute eine Rolle, z.B. bei den Moldauischen Präsidentschaftswahlen 2020.

Auch wenn die geringere Medienpräsenz den gegenteiligen Anschein erweckt, so war die Zahl der Flüchtenden im letzten Jahr deutlich höher als noch 2019, Tendenz weiterhin steigend.

Zwischen dem Nicht-EU-Staat Serbien und EU-Mitglied Rumänien ist letztes Jahr die Anzahl der versuchten illegalen Grenzübertritte im Vergleich zum selben gemessenen Zeitraum 2019 um ganze 600% gestiegen.

Migrationsexperten gehen davon aus, dass dieser Wert gar noch drastischer steigen könnte, wenn die Pandemie erst am Abflauen ist – eine derartige Korrelation konnte man im Zuge der Lockdown-Lockerungen Serbiens vergangenen Mai bereits feststellen.

Medien spielen schon immer eine sehr wichtige Rolle in der Gesellschaft, und das nicht nur, weil Menschen immer auf dem Laufendem bleiben können, sondern auch weil Medien unter anderem viel Macht besitzen. Sie beeinflussen die Meinungsbildung und die Wahrnehmung der Realität von großen Menschengruppen.

Außerdem sind Medien oft ein wichtiges Instrument der Staatsmacht und dadurch werden Menschen und deren Ansichten stark manipuliert. Menschen hören, lesen und sehen nur das, was sie „dürfen“. Andere Meinungen und Ansichten sind in Belarus äußerst unerwünscht. So funktionieren Medien in einem Staat, in dem es keine Meinungsfreiheit gibt, keine Demokratie.

Wenn so ein System seit vielen Jahren existiert und funktioniert, kann es problematisch für die Bürger werden, zwischen Lüge und Wahrheit zu unterscheiden.

Aber was wenn die Menschen ihr Vertrauen verlieren? Was wenn die Gesellschaft es lernt, einige Sachen kritisch zu beobachten?

Am 08.04.2021 starb Jovan Divjak. Insbesondere in seiner Wahlheimat Sarajevo, die er liebevoll ‚mon amour‘ nannte, war er schon zu Lebzeiten eine Legende und personifiziertes Symbol für ein multi-ethnische, friedliches Bosnien-Herzegowina.

Divjak, der von Bosnier:innen auch Onkel oder General Jovo genannt wurde, wurde in Belgrad geboren. Seine Eltern kamen aus der bosnischen Krajina-Region. Wie sein Vater diente Divjak in der Jugoslawischen Volksarmee, verbrachte einen Teil seiner Ausbildung in Frankreich und zog in den 1960ern wieder nach Sarajevo.
